If you set the departure time, the routing preference has to be either TRAFFIC_AWARE or TRAFFIC_AWARE_OPTIMAL. Both TRAFFIC_AWARE and TRAFFIC_AWARE_OPTIMAL factor in real-time road conditions, including closures. TRAFFIC_AWARE provides a balance of accuracy and latency, while TRAFFIC_AWARE_OPTIMAL performs a more exhaustive search for the most optimal route, also factoring in temporary closures.
